Implant Patient Iain Cotterill
My name is Iain and I have been a patient at the practice since 2009. At the beginning of the first lockdown in March 2020 I was at home when I decided to have a snack on what I think was a Snickers bar. I began to open the packet with my front teeth which caused my front tooth to snap clean in half. My veneers were placed around 15 years ago and I think the tooth must have just weakened over time.
With it being lockdown I wasn’t able to see my Dentist for 11 months. My wife Jane made me at least a dozen temporary dentures from a product she found on the internet. These weren’t great, they looked like a tooth but they were unstable and discoloured very quickly. I was very embarrassed about losing my tooth, it affected my confidence, I would always cover my mouth when I talked or smiled.
My first consultation with Dr Nasser Syed made me feel very relaxed and I was confident I was going to receive the best treatment possible. He explained the stages of my treatment and introduced me to Professor Julian Yates. I was given a few leaflets and a bespoke treatment plan to read and digest, this went into details of my proposed treatment.
The team worked together and removed what was left of my damaged tooth, an implant was placed and a temporary denture was used to hide the gap. This appointment was very straightforward and not painful at all. Professor Yates and Dr Syed were both very reassuring and I didn’t feel a thing, I didn’t even feel the tooth come out.
I am still at the early stages of my treatment but up to now the service I have received has been fantastic, my temporary denture has made me feel a lot more confident and I am now able to smile.
My next visit in a few months will be with Dr Syed to put a crown on the implant. I am very excited about my future appointments and I cannot wait to see the final result.
I will definitely not open any more packets with my teeth!
